Holidays Around the World/Storytellers
In late November through December Epcot celebrates holidays in World Showcase with Storytellers. Each country (except Mexico) has a Storyteller share their traditions.
In China come see the Lion Dancers perform a 7 minute dance to bring good fortune for the Lunar New Year.
Norway- Julenissen and Sigrid
In Norway you learn about Christmas from Sigrid a farm girl. She talks about family traditions and celebrations. Julenissen or the Christmas Gnome arrives. Sigrid no longer believes and can not see him so he plays some tricks to help her believe. The story is about 15 minutes long.
Germany- Helga and Nutcracker
In Germany you will hear about Christmas trees and Nutcrackers.
Italy- La Befana
In Italy hear about La Befana or the good witch. She comes down the chimney to leave treats for good children.
America- Hanukkah and Kwanzaa
Santa and Mrs. Claus greet guests
The American Pavilion has alot going on during the holidays. During the day two different storytellers present Hanukkah and Kwanzaa. Both presentations last about 15 minutes. The Hanukkah presentation talks about toys such as the Dreidel and also the burning lamp. The Kwanzaa presentation talks about familiy and traditions. During the day Mr. and Mrs. Claus greet guests and take pictures for about an hour, 2-3 times a day.
Japan- Daruma Vendor
Learn about the Japenese New Year from the Daruma Vendor and also about the importance of the daruma doll.
Morocco- The Spice of Life
In Morocco learn about the various festivals celebrating harvests. Guests help participate during the discussion of several fetivals.
In France listen to Pere Noel speak of French Christmas traditions.
United Kingdom- Father Christmas
In the back of the UK pavilion listen to Father Christmas explain the origin of Christmas cards and the use of holly.
Canada- Canadian Voyagers
In Canada listen to the musical group Canadian Voyagers perform some holiday music from around Canada.
