Frozen- Yup, anyone who knows me can say why this is the first on the list. The animation isn’t great, the characters are really unrealistic (Elsa and Anna will give girls identity issues, yes I know all the princesses are thin and beautiful but this is a new level). The music is nothing special either. Let It Go has to be the worst Disney song ever, the wording is mediocre. Originally the first time I saw the movie I thought it was ok… well… I should say the beginning is ok until we get to Hans showing up. I really disliked that Anna fell for his act straight away and it went downhill from there. For some girls such as myself the Disney Princesses are their first role models besides their moms. I hated to see how gullible Anna was and it never really changes, yes she does save her sisters life but she still has a way to go to being a strong character that girls should look up to. The only character that is likable in the movie is Olaf and at times the whole “warm hugs” can be too much.
Fantasia- This is a classic Disney movie which I just can’t get into. I’ve tried many times to like this just because of it’s importance but I can only really like the Sorcerer Mickey part the rest of it is just too much for me. The music is great I’ll give it that and the animation is fantastic but the story lines are confusing. Is this a kids movie or an adults movie? I watched it as a kid and hated it, as an adult I can appreciate what they were trying to do but I still have no love of this one. I have to say after seeing the movie with a live symphony (it was a blend of this is Fantasia 2000) I have a slightly better outlook on this movie.
Sleeping Beauty- This was the movie that got away from Walt. He had a great vision for it but costs were so high that they had to skimp on parts of the movie and during production his attention was on Disneyland. Maleficent is still one of the great Disney villains even to this day and I was thrilled when she got her own live action movie. Aurora is hardly in the movie even though this movie is supposed to be about her, I think she is only on screen for like 16 minutes of the movie. The fairies are funny when they fight about the color of Aurora/Brier Rose’s dress but great scenes are few and far between in this one. Parts of the movie are very slow moving and you can see why Walt did not want another princess movie made after this one.
