Shirley Temple presented the award to Walt Disney. The movie filled the need for children’s movies and was the beginning of the great film legacy of the Disney company. People today can still sing all the words to “Heighho” that was sung by the seven dwarves on their way to and from the diamond mine. Disneyland, Disneyland Paris, and Tokyo Disneyland have the ride Snow White Scary’s Adventure. This ride was also at Disney World in the Magic Kingdom but was removed to create the Fairytale Hall where the Princesses meet in 2014. A translated version of the novel was given to Walt in 1937 and work on the movie began shortly after. This movie is also memorable for having multiple villains such as Honest John, Gideon, Stromboli, and Monstro the whale. Fans of Disney will be very familiar with The Sorcerer’s Apprentice since it features Mickey Mouse. This sequence is used in the Mickey’s PhilharMagic Show at the Magic Kingdom. This movie was not as big box office success when it came out, this movie was made quickly to help bring in the money Fantasia did not. Dumbo was brought out since production for Bambi was taking longer then expected since they were using live animals as models. This is one of those movies that gives every a good feeling and is one of the shortest Disney movies. Dumbo is treated badly by the other elephants but with the help of his friend Timothy Mouse he uses his big ears to make himself a star and free his mother. Dumbo was nominated for two Academy Awards for Best Scoring of a Musical Picture (win) and Best Original Song. This movie has the iconic Dumbo ride at all of the Disney parks. With the new Fantasyland expansion there is now 2 Dumbo rides at Disney World.

Donald makes an appearance as a tourist and Goofy as a cowboy. This movie is sold together with The Three Caballeros on one disc. The movie was nominated for three Academy Awards for Best Musical Score, Best Original Song, and Best Sound Recording.

In Disney World Casey’s Corner, a quick service restaurant, is named after the baseball player in the fifth segment. The segments were placed together since most of the animators had gone to fight in the war and the company did not have the money to invest in a typical full length feature. The film was also entered in Cannes Film Festival.

Many of these segments are familiar because they are often played on TV at the Disney World resort hotels. The critical reviews of this movie were not as great as the previous films except for a segment or two. The Pecos Bill segment was later edited to remove the scenes of the character smoking.

In 2003 101 Dalmatians 2: Patch’s London Adventure came out on DVD.
